Pan Twardowski
Pan Twardowski is a legendary Polish sorcerer who, according to folklore, made a pact with the devil, exchanging his soul for magical powers. To outsmart the devil, he stipulated that his soul could only be taken in Rome—a place he never intended to visit. However, the devil eventually tricked Twardowski by confronting him in an inn named “Rzym” (Polish for Rome), leading to his capture. This tale parallels the German legend of Faust and has inspired various works in Polish literature and art.
